Costs of Treatment

The cost of treatment for diseases associated with asbestos exposure are high. Depending on the stage of the disease at diagnosis, treatment can cost anywhere from $150,000 to over $1,000,000. Alimta and Cisplatin are anti-cancer drugs commonly used to treat malignant mesothelioma. One treatment cycle for these drugs can cost approximately $5,000, and multiple treatment cycles are normally used. Gene therapy is also used in treatment for mesothelioma, and a complete course of gene therapy usually costs in the high six figures. Both of these treatments may be used in tandem, and a cure is not assured for either.

With the increases in modern medicine come increased survival rates and extended and improved lives for those with terminal cases. However, the best, most modern therapies also carry the highest charges.
